How to write a college essay
Essay writing tasks are mandatory in the program of any educational institution. They are aimed at the development of students’ verbal and creative abilities, and they form the ability to analyze and express their knowledge in their own words.
Not every student from birth has a talent for writing. Some people mistakenly believe that writing cannot be improved, and then notice with surprise that there are a great many ways, hints, and tricks on how to write an essay. To some extent, they can be reduced to a kind of formula.
Types of essays
First, you need to decide what kind of work the teacher needs. In terms of content, the compositions are divided into the following subspecies:
It is most often used in texts aimed at verbal portraits, characters, states of characters, or the surrounding reality. The description abundantly uses high-quality adjectives and verbs in the present tense, as well as many artistic techniques like metaphor, epithet, comparisons. The writing form of the essay-description is fairly free and does not have a rigid structural framework.
In fact, it is a handwritten story containing such elements as the plot, the development of action, and the result. The writer must tell about the events in the proper order, in which the use of verbs and participles in the present tense can help.
The most favorite type of teachers job. As a rule, the writer is given some kind of argument or question that needs to be developed in work, reinforcing his own point of view with conclusions and concrete evidence. The traditional composition of reasoning includes the thesis (the main thought of the essay), the main part (enumeration of arguments) and a conclusion in which the justice/injustice or correctness/incorrectness of the given topic should be reflected.
It is not uncommon that all three types of works in one way or another can be present in one work. For example, if a given topic implies a biography of a historical figure, including a subjective assessment of his personality and indicating a definite conclusion of the writer about the specified person. Then it makes sense to talk about some universal work structure.
